General Airport Information

Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) is China’s newest aviation hub and one of the most impressive airports in the world. Nicknamed the “Starfish” for its unique design, it is the second largest airport terminal globally and the second international gateway for Beijing, alongside Beijing Capital Airport (PEK). Built at a cost of US $17.47 billion, this state-of-the-art mega-project aims to relieve congestion at PEK and is designed to handle up to 100 million passengers annually. Located in the Daxing District, around 46 km from Beijing city center, the airport combines functionality, eco-friendly innovation, and architectural brilliance.

Terminals

The futuristic Daxing Airport terminal is the second largest single-building terminal in the world. Its layout features a central hall with five concourses (“arms” of the starfish), ensuring that no gate is more than 600 meters from the main area. Thanks to this design, passengers can reach their gate with an 8-minute walk. Arrivals and departures are separated, each occupying two dedicated floors. Looking ahead, a second South Terminal is planned, further expanding Daxing’s capacity.

Hotels

Travelers will find a wide variety of hotels near Daxing Airport, ranging from luxury 5-star hotels to budget hostels, motels, and B&Bs. Some accommodations, however, only accept Chinese citizens, so international travelers should confirm policies before booking. For maximum convenience, the Daxing Airport Hotel inside the terminal is the perfect choice for passengers with long layovers or early flights.

Facilities and Services

Daxing Airport is not only one of the largest, but also among the most technologically advanced airports worldwide. The terminal has been designed to minimize waiting times with advanced passenger and luggage check-in systems, while maintaining strict environmental standards. Travelers can enjoy:

  • Automated check-in and baggage handling
  • Luxury lounges, shops, and dining areas
  • Visa-free transit options for international passengers
  • Environmentally sustainable design and energy-saving systems

Parking

The airport offers over 4,200 parking spaces spread across two modern parking buildings. Services include automatic parking robots, car washing, tire inflation, vehicle tracking, and EV charging stations. Parking is safe, convenient, and reasonably priced.

Layover at the Airport

If you have a long layover at Daxing Airport, you won’t run out of options. Travelers eligible for the 24-hour visa-free entry can explore Beijing’s iconic attractions such as the Forbidden City, Great Wall, or Temple of Heaven. Alternatively, if you prefer to stay inside the airport, PKX offers plenty of leisure and relaxation facilities, from spas and lounges to cultural exhibitions, ensuring your waiting time feels like a mini-vacation.
